I wanted to offer heirloom portraits for a long time before I began offering them this year. Simply put, I waited because I am very particular about my work and wanted to perfect this art first. As a Charlottesville and Richmond photographer, I dreamed of creating portraits that are true heirlooms: timeless images passed down for generations. I dreamed of the outfits that children might wear for these, possibly outfits that their parents or even grandparents wore when they were little. I thought about the stories that families might tell about little personalities from past generations as they gathered around to look at these heirloom images filled with joy and sweet childhood innocence. And I wanted to create only the best, most beautiful portraits to match all of this.
I only want to give the best to my clients, so I practiced and learned and practiced and fine-tuned and practiced and even invested in and traveled to a workshop to learn more and prefect the look of my heirloom portraits first. I wanted to make sure I could consistently create clean, crisp portraits with beautiful catchlights and minimal shadowing. While others may offer vignette pictures, I wanted mine to truly be heirloom portraits: brightly and beautifully capturing the joy and innocence of childhood in a unique and timeless way.
Finally, this spring, after a lot of hard work, I was ready to begin offering these. I hosted my first heirloom portrait event in April, and it was so incredible! The spots filled up faster than I could have imagined, only confirming my thought that these timeless childhood images are something that parents deeply desire to have. We, as parents, want a timeless and classic way to hold on to the essence of what makes our littles who they are. We want something we can look back on and enjoy for generations that will only become more beautiful and meaningful with time.
My next event is coming up this fall, and I am so excited to create more of these classic vignette portraits for families from all across Virginia. Reach out to find out about how to join my waitlist and register for an heirloom portrait sitting with me!
